CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF BIG SUR

We’ve been brewing our classic West Coast IPA for over a decade now – a milestone that calls for celebration.

Named after the mountainous region of California's West Coast, Big Sur was the 2nd beer we ever created. That was back when we were just a 3-person team tackling the whopper 18-hour brew day needed for the process. Since then, the striking chartreuse green can has become a TGBC mainstay and a go-to IPA from Sydney.

The all-American hops are what typifies Big Sur as a prime example of a West Coast IPA. This is what gives the beer its gutsy bitterness and piney, citrusy, grapefruit character. And that’s why it's arguably the most regarded, relevant and (in our opinion) drinkable IPA style out there.

We’re proud to still be making Big Sur to enthusiastic reception, a dedicated following keeping the dream alive. Sharply hoppy and high in alcohol, the West Coast is generally more popular among craft beer connoisseurs than your casual punter. We think it really comes into its own on a tasting tray, however, a pony being an approachable size and the IPA making for a strong crescendo.

Big Sur California is a breathtaking natural landscape where towering peaks meet winding coastline. It’s fabled as one of the best drives and motorcycle routes in the US – if not the planet. Culturally, the area also features prominently in the American arts, including canonical literature like Henry Miller, John Steinbeck, Hunter S. Thompson and
Jack Keroac.

Despite the place’s undeniable allure (and that of the beer, for that matter), none of our founders who named our West Coast have ever been to Big Sur. Hopefully one day, one can make it over, to sink a Sur as an eagle soars above…

For now, we propose a toast – to Big Sur!
Here’s to 10 more delicious years.
